About Evelyn Whiteside

I have been teaching for close to 30 years. Most of that time has been spent in early childhood education. I have a BS in education from Millersville State College and a MS in education from Cabrini College. I hold teaching certifications in both early childhood and special education. Many years ago I worked for the Devereux Foundation and the Owen J. Roberts School District. When my oldest daughter was born I began my journey into early childhood by opening a registered home day care. I then worked for several years at St. Andrew’s Nursery School in Audubon. Before starting at Little Acorns I worked at Easter Seals in Kulpsville, PA where I taught an inclusion model preschool. My passions and experience are with the little people, I continue to learn and gain so much energy and excitement from them. I am looking forward to partnering with The Green Tree Church of the Brethren in getting a quality preschool environment started in this beautiful, child friendly facility. Little Acorns Preschool will quickly become a great addition to the surrounding local communities.

September 2017

We have had a fun start to our school year.  The children in all 3 classes are getting comfortable with our school, routines, and playing with each other.  We are enjoying playing and learning together!

Today we were scientists and made predictions on apples floating or sinking in water.  We then tested our predictions by putting the apples in the water.  Most of us were amazed that they floated.  We also had fun taking the apples out of the water using tongs.  We were having fun while practicing our fine motor skills at the same time.

Summer 2017

We had so much fun during our Summer Adventures camp weeks!  One of the many activities we did was explore real, live worms during our “Backyard Fun” week.  There were many squeals, much excitement, and lots of student engagement!

We are missing all our little friends and look forward to welcoming some back in September and meeting many new faces as well.  A good reminder…

Engineers at work

Recently the children had fun building a playground for their pretend pet snakes.  Working together they came up with lots of fun designs.  Although it looks like they are “just playing” they exploring lots of science and math concepts.  The added bonus was working with a partner and cooperatively coming up with a plan for the playground.

Thanksgiving 2016

Happy Thanksgiving to all our family and friends.  We had so much fun in our classrooms this month!  The children all made Thanksgiving placemats to use in school and then to take home.  It was so nice to learn more about all our little friends through pictures.  We also played lots of fun games this month like “Stuff The Turkey”.

We have been busy this month learning about how families are the same and how they are different.  The children have also been working on learning their addresses and phone numbers using fun activities.  We are excited about the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.  In Lunch Bunch we made a “Thankful” tree and talked about all the things there are to be thankful for.
