We have enjoyed the start of our second school year at Little Acorns. Both classes have made great transitions into the new school year. Everyone is quickly learning routines and having fun meeting new friends and exploring the world of school.
I have never been great at taking pictures to record all the special moments of life. I think it is because I get caught up in actually living the moments rather than recording them. However, as I get older and “recording” moments becomes easier with all the advanced technology we have available, I am striving to make sure I get pictures of more of the fun things that happen.
This week we were enjoying a fabulous fall day on the playground and I was reminded yet again how amazingly smart and resourceful little ones are if we just give them the time and space. It was a windy day, so our basketball net kept getting blown over. I told the kids we were going to leave it on the ground so it wouldn’t clunk anyone in the head. A bit a later a few of my little friends were gathered by the net. As I watched and listened I heard, “I have and idea…” “We can make and obstacle course with it.” A few started the process and soon several more children joined in. The success of this idea came from the children’s ownership of it. They thought it up, not an adult. It was something they were successful with and proud of. They were practicing so many motor skills, thinking skills, and social skills. All we needed to do was get out of the way and let them play.
P.S. Luckily, Donna had her phone to take pictures, because mine was back in the classroom in my purse
